Inspection of seamless steel pipe before delivery

Inspection of seamless steel pipe before delivery

When seamless steel pipes are off the assembly line, they must go through multiple inspections before they can leave the factory. So what are the inspection items for seamless steel pipes? In fact, it can be roughly divided into several categories: inspection of surface quality, geometric dimensions; inspection of chemical composition, mechanical properties, process performance, high and low magnification structure; non-destructive inspection inspection; inspection of certain special properties and length measurement and weighing.

(1) Inspection of the inner and outer surfaces of seamless steel pipes
In general, visual inspection is used to inspect the inner and outer surfaces, and in addition to visual inspection, reflective prisms can also be used to inspect the inner surface. Some special-purpose seamless steel pipes also require non-destructive testing, including eddy current, magnetic flux leakage, ultrasonic, magnetic particle testing, etc., to inspect the internal and external surface quality of seamless steel pipes.

(2) Geometry inspection of seamless steel pipe
The outer diameter, wall thickness, curvature, and length of seamless steel pipes can be inspected on the inspection table with external calipers, micrometers, curvature rulers, and length tapes.
The outer diameter, wall thickness and length can also be continuously tested using automatic size testing devices (such as automatic diameter measurement, thickness measurement, and length measurement devices). The seamless steel pipe production plants put into operation in the late 1980s generally have online automatic diameter and thickness measurement devices, and length measurement and weighing equipment in the finishing area. For OCTG seamless steel pipes, a comprehensive inspection of thread parameters is also required.

(3) Non-destructive testing
Non-destructive testing refers to the direct inspection of internal and surface defects of seamless steel pipes without damaging them. At present, magnetic flux leakage testing, ultrasonic testing, eddy current and fluorescent magnetic particle testing have been widely used in seamless steel pipe enterprises. In recent years, non-destructive testing methods have developed greatly. Recently, new technologies such as acoustic emission holography, ultrasonic spectrum analysis testing, ultrasonic imaging testing and ultrasonic high-temperature testing have emerged.

(4) Mechanical properties and process performance inspection
In order to verify that the mechanical properties of seamless steel pipes meet the requirements of the standard, it is necessary to sample seamless steel pipes for mechanical performance inspection.
The most important test of mechanical properties includes tensile strength, yield strength, elongation, impact energy, etc. The most important process performance test includes flattening test, flaring test, hydraulic test, crimping test, cold bending test, perforation test, etc. These inspection items are selected according to different standards and the use of seamless steel pipes.

Therefore, you can rest assured that you can choose to buy this type of pipe material, because seamless steel pipes need to be professionally tested before they go out on the market. This not only guarantees the quality, but also allows customers to buy more at ease, don’t worry about buying them. Substandard pipe material.
